We thought you may like to know a bit more about our school governors:
Jonathan Wood
My name is Jonathan Wood and I am a co-opted governor. I have been married for 7 years and we have a son who is currently in reception at Galley Common.
I graduated university in 2010 and work as a project manager, specialising in energy projects, at a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy.
I became a governor to help support the school to be involved in my son’s education and, particularly given the multiplicity of pressures on schools at the moment, give something back to the school using my time, commitment and support. Since becoming a governor and our child starting at the school, my wife has become a member of the Friends of Galley Common.
As a governor, I am part of an excellent team committed to supporting positive outcomes for all children at the school. I am keen to support pupils, parents and staff to ensure that the high standards demonstrated at the school continue in an inclusive, community environment.
Joanne Russell
My name is Joanne Russell and I am a parent governor. My daughter is currently a pupil in Year 1 and my son is due to start Reception in September. I have been a qualified teacher since 2004 and am currently the lead for the Early Years department in an all age Special Needs school in Solihull. Alongside me teaching responsibilities I am a member of the school senior leadership team with responsibilities for Foundation/Key Stage 1 assessment and data, EHCP requests and safeguarding.
As a parent governor I hope to be able to support the school governing body by offering a parent viewpoint and I hope that my professional experience in school leadership and Ofsted inspections coupled with my knowledge of child development, is supportive of this. As a parent I value education highly, and aim to support the governing body to keep the education offered at Galley Common to a high standard for the benefit of all pupils.
